Meet Chuck Higgins, Owner and Operator of Battle Lake Golf Course
Battle Lake owner and Head Golf Professional Chuck Higgins began a love affair with the game of golf as a youngster growing up in Southern California. At the age of 13 he began caddying at Annandale Country Club, located in Pasadena, and it wasn't long before golf was his main focus. “By the time I was in eighth grade, I had quit baseball and most other activities and was head over heels into golf, playing as much as I could.” Highlights of his tenure at Annandale included caddying for Arnold Palmer and running the club storage room for past P.G.A. President Pat Rielly.
Attending college at the University of California at Davis, Higgins earned a business degree in 1985. He was twice honored as an NCAA All-American, along with being team captain for 3 years. But life after graduation did not include much time for golf. “I began to really miss the game and I wanted to get back into it from the ownership side,” he says. “It turned out that Texas was the place where I’d be able to make that happen.”
Higgins bought Battle Lake Golf Course in 1990 with his brother Tim, who became the course superintendent. Together the two began renovating the course and the golf shop. Chuck later bought out Tim’s share of the business.
But Chuck’s enthusiasm for the business of golf continues and he’s always dreaming up new ways to please his customers and make life more interesting for local players. |
